FUGA Gets 250 Million Naira ASR Africa Grant

The Federal University Gashua, Yobe State, was listed among 22 universities and institutions of higher learning to benefit from the 5.5 billion Naira Abdul Samad Rabiu Africa Initiative (ASR Africa) toward infrastructure projects under the ASR Africa Tertiary Education Grant Scheme (TEGS).


Each of the beneficiary institutions is expected to get 250 million Naira, and prior to this announcement, about 8 universities had benefited from the ASR Africa TEGS intervention, with some of the projects nearing completion.


Reacting to this recent development, the Vice Chancellor of Federal University Gashua, Professor Maimuna Waziri, expressed appreciation to ASR Africa for finding FUGA worthy of being among the beneficiary institutions, stressing that the institution would work with ASR Africa to ensure that the fund was utilized for the purpose for which it was meant.


Abdul Samad Rabiu, Chairman of ASR Africa and BUA Group, said: “At ASR Africa, we believe in Africa’s capacity to leapfrog the development divide through the SDGs. Good, quality investments in education are one of the ways through which we can achieve that. This is why education remains one of the three focal areas for ASR Africa’s interventions in Nigeria, and Africa and our investments in infrastructure for tertiary institutions are showing good promise.”  


According to the managing director of ASR Africa, Ubon Udoh, the 22 beneficiary institutions were chosen across Nigeria based on carefully selected criteria, and the next phase of the grant framework would be project selection adding that the development of mutual accountability frameworks with respective universities.
